Jigsaw/PSHCE Intent

Children are able to recognise how to keep themselves and others safe.

Children can identify feelings and emotions and can communicate these effectively. They are able to form and maintain positive relationships.

Children are able to reflect on and discuss their perspectives and opinions on a wide range of subjects. Children are able to listen, reflect on and discuss the opinions and perspectives of others’ as well.

Children learn to recognise their own worth (value, character and identity), work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.

Children can reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally, socially, culturally and morally.

Children learn to understand and respect how to build and foster fulfilling relationships.

Teaching of Jigsaw at St James Church School

Jigsaw allows us to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which :

  • promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school;
  • prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life;
  • promotes British values;
  • provides Health, Relationship and Sex education (age-appropriate)according to the DfE guidelines.

St James Church School also have statutory responsibilities to safeguard our pupils (Keeping Children Safe in Education, DfE, 2019) and to uphold the Equality Act (2010).

The Jigsaw Programme supports all of these requirements and has children’s wellbeing at its heart. For further information please follow the link below.
