Welcome to the Oak Class page
Teacher: Mr Slavin
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Harper
We are a Year 2 class at St James School.
Year 2 spellings can be found in their spelling books. The children can use the games each week to learn their spellings in a fun and interactive way.
Please support your child to practise these at home.
It is expected that children will read a minimum of three times per week at home using Bug Club. Bug Club is an excellent resource that has interactive questions about the book they have just read. This supports the children's comprehension skills. In addition to this, children bring home a picture book every day which can be read to them. This helps with vocabulary and generating a love of books.
If you have any questions about helping your child learn to read, please come and ask.
Remember... reading cafe is available every Monday and Friday after school. The children can enjoy a drink and snack with access to lots of books. There is even a weekly guest reader!
PE and Forest School
Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing in school for P.E and Forest School on Thursdays.
Activities in Forest School include fire making, den building, team building games, problem solving and exploring our natural environment.
Key Stage 1 enjoyed a ‘Pirate Day’ to kick-start their Spring Learning Expedition. The teachers and children dressed up in their best pirate costumes and we took part in four activities across the day. These included creating a pirate map, pirate arts and crafts, swashbuckling games and solving cunning clues to complete a treasure hunt.
