New Reception Class Intake September 2021

Admissions for New Starters to Reception 2021-22

Welcome to our new starters admissions information page. Parents/carers need to apply for a place by 15th January 2021 ready to start school in September.

The Somerset admission arrangements are available here:

https://www.somerset.gov.uk/education-and-families/primary-admissions-guide/

We understand that choosing a school for your child is an important decision and we want to ensure that parents have as much information as they can to make an informed choice. As we cannot hold our usual welcome days due to the current public health restrictions, we will be posting a video that explores the school and demonstrates the curriculum, values and priorities we have at St James.

Please see below for the information given to new starters in the Summer term when their placement is confirmed. This includes a virtual tour of the reception classes, a welcome note from Mr Johnson and some useful resources to use when preparing your child to start their exciting journey through Primary School.

Welcome

We at St James Church School, would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our school community. This is the start of an exciting seven-year journey for your child with us. It is essential that we establish a good relationship with you and your child so that they start school happy and confident. At St James Church School, we value our parent partnership links and we are really looking forward to meeting you.

We recognise the importance for all children to have a happy and settled transition into school and we would usually inform you of our induction process at this time. We would normally arrange the following:

  • A welcome meeting
  • Visits to nursery settings
  • Stay and play sessions
  • Home visits

The Covid 19 Crisis has had a huge impact on us all and therefore we are unable to organise these events at the current time. Rest assured, we will contact you at the earliest opportunity to notify you of our amended planned induction timetable when further guidance is issued from the Government.

Please contact the school office as soon as convenient to confirm your placement at St James Church School and to provide us with contact details which will enable us to call you in the coming weeks to welcome you to St James and ensure we are able to update you with important information.
