Generic reading to do at home

Bug Club

Children in years R-2 will continue to have access to Bug Club enabling them to have access to a large number of phonically decodable books at the right level. Please ensure children are completing all the comprehension questions by clicking on the bugs.

Every child's login details have been added to their new home learning book. Teachers will continue to monitor children's reading levels and answers to the comprehension questions remotely. If new books are required, they will be allocated to your child's Bug Club page.

Accelerated Reader

For those children in KS2 (and any Year 2 children accessing AR), we are opening up access to this resource to enable children to quiz on books they have read at home. Please support your child to follow the advice below:

Logging in...

Please copy and paste this URL into your browser:

Each child has their own login details which will allow them to access Accelerated Reader and search for books and complete quizzes. These can be found in their new home learning books.

Completing a Quiz...

This online video provides a demonstration of how to search for a book and take a quiz.

We encourage asking questions and discussing the book children have read as they share their reading with you. However, please ensure children take the quizzes independently to support teachers with their ongoing assessment and targeted teaching of reading.

Choosing the right book...

Pupils develop reading skills most effectively when they read appropriately challenging books – difficult enough to keep them engaged, but not so difficult that they become frustrated. This is their ‘Zone of Proximal Development’ (ZPD).

Each child has a ZPD range based on their previous assessment and this needs to be used to choose the correct level of book. You and your child can search for a book to find out its level of difficulty on your child's account or using the website below. You just need to enter the title of the book and it will tell you all the information you need to know.

Don't worry if the book is slightly below their level - if they want to read it to just enjoy it, please encourage this too.  If the book is above their level, you could read a chapter to your child as a bed time story each night.
