The Lost Words presentation

On Friday 9th November we were very proud to receive our copy of The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane, illustrated by Jackie Morris.  This book is a tribute to the words of nature that have been removed from the English Dictionary.  The book is a set of acrostic poetry and beautiful imagery that recognises the awe and wonder of nature.

A crowd funding campaign has raised enough money to ensure a copy of this book can be given as a gift to over 250 schools in Somerset.  We were very proud to be chosen as one of the first to receive the book by crowd funding organiser John Fish who kindly came to school on Friday 9th November to present us with our copy.  Thank you.

We were very excited to also have Claire Carter from BBC Somerset radio come in to cover the event and interview some of our Year 5 pupil voice representatives.

What a wonderful occasion.  We have displayed the book in our school hall on our display created during No Pens Wednesday for all to see, and we will be using it as inspiration for many projects over the year.  Keep an eye on the website to see what happens next!

Words are being taken out of the dictionary.  Because we are going to lose them this book has spells to bring them back again.  (Jack in Year 5)
