I started my business career in the retail food and catering supply industries throughout the South West and took this experience to the oil industry in London working with an American company.
A period of 10 years in this industry saw me working throughout the UK and Europe and was followed by a 10 year spell in the Confectionery industry working in sales, HR and logistics throughout the uk.
I returned to my beloved Somerset in 1995 and opened an Executive Search recruitment company and have managed this until the present time.
During the past 10 years I have worked voluntarily with the ‘Princes Trust’ and where most of my time has been spent helping disadvantaged young people to start a business as a sole trader and with the financial support of a trust loan or grant. I also assist with fund raising activities.
My first involvement in education started in 2000 when I was a Mentor to year 10 students through their final 2 year GCSE period in a secondary school and where I also became a governor and then ‘Chair’ of Governors until 2012.
I have been Chair of Governors at St James since the start of the 2013 school year.
I am the Children and Family Worker at Taunton Baptist Church, and have had links with St James Church School for 4 years. I regularly do assemblies in the school, prayer spaces, and storytelling RE lessons with Nursery, Reception and Year 1. As a Christian and practitioner, I feel passionately that children should be supported in their spiritual development by encouraging them to think about life's bigger questions. I am really looking forward to being a Governor at St James and supporting the school as it provides a positive, fun and supportive learning environment for the pupils and their families.
I am happiest when the sun shines and I can sit out in my garden. I enjoy cooking, geocaching, jogging and keeping fit, and I love watching rugby.
I work as a Senior Healthcare Assistant at Musgrove Park Hospital and I have lived in Taunton for the last 24 years. I have 4 children and have had connections as a parent with St James Church School (formerly ABC) for the last 17 years. I have seen many changes throughout these years, both good and unfortunately, in the past, bad. I am really looking forward to being part of the exciting new changes for the better that are happening at St James and cant wait to get to grips with my role as parent governor.
My name is Sarah Lawrence and I am a stay at home mum. I have two children at the school and want them to have the best education that they can, it has been a while coming but with all the changes that have happened I think the school is well on the way to giving them it. I feel that everyone within the school is giving their all and I would like to "do my bit" So once I get used to school jargon I might just be able to do that.
Duncan MacRae is Headteacher of Enmore Primary School, just west of Bridgwater. Enmore was one of the first primary schools to become an academy, opening in September 2011. Enmore made the move without a sponsor whilst retaining their Church of England status. He says: “I am delighted to sit on the Board of the Bath & Wells Multi Academy Trust, and be a member of St James LGB as I am aware of the issues academy status presents for schools as well as the opportunities it affords.”
